The sudden and inexplicable loss of Canadian classical music legend Boris Brott has left the nation’s music industry in shock — but none more so than his family.
Brott, 78, was just steps from his family home when he was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident. A suspect has since been arrested by Hamilton police.
In the wake of the tragedy, and the overwhelming response, the Brott family has issued a statement.
Brott Family Statement
The family of Boris Brott wishes to express their gratitude for the outpouring of sympathy and support as they mourn the shocking loss of internationally renowned conductor and proud Hamiltonian Boris Brott.
“It is difficult to conceive that our darling husband, beloved father and fun-loving, doting Zaidie has been taken from us so suddenly and senselessly,” said wife Ardyth.
“His unending hugs, his infectious impish smile, his love of tinkering around the cottage are just a tiny portion of the many memories Boris leaves to me, our children, and grandchildren at this tragic time.
“He also was a larger-than-life creator, artist, educator, and motivator. We are so proud of the incredible contribution he has made to Canadian musicians, audiences and young people throughout Hamilton, Canada, and the world.”
Boris Brott leaves wife Ardyth, daughter Alexandra (Wes), sons David (Marijana) and Benjamin (Jennifer) and grandchildren Isabella, Jonah, Everett and Remi.
The family will make a further statement through Brott Music Festival in the coming days
