The Toronto Consort will be sticking with an all-virtual season for 2021-2022.
The news comes despite Ontario’s move to return to 100% capacity at concert venues, as announced last week.
This marks the second year Toronto’s early music juggernauts have embraced a more digital forward approach to expressing their mandate.
The 2021-2022 Digital season will stream exclusively on Early Music TV, the Toronto Consort’s new digital streaming platform launched in late 2020.
The season includes four digital events from the Middle Ages to early Baroque, and a premiere of a newly commissioned concert opera by Canadian composer Alex Eddington. All season events are filmed at Toronto’s Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre.
Early Music TV exceeds expectations…
…According to Toronto Consort’s Managing Director Michelle Knight, the new digital platform has been embraced by traditional in-person concertgoers.
By the numbers
- 16,000 views (both paid and unpaid)
- 100% increase in reach in under a year
- Expanded international reach
- 83% users opt for subscriptions over single tickets
- Donations are up
Looking ahead
The Toronto Consort confirmed they plan to offer livestreamed/pre-recorded concerts as an option for patrons once they return to in-person events.
When asked when they plan to return to in-person shows, Knight said they are currently reviewing plans for this season but are hopeful they will be able to see audiences in person again in 2022.
The Toronto Consort’s 2021-22 season will begin November 17, 2021. For more details, visit their website here.
