The Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, one of Canada’s premier arts festivals, has named Mhiran Faraday as Executive Director.

Faraday will take over from outgoing General Manager Peter MacDonald who left to pursue other opportunities.

Career catch-up:

  • Started her career as a theatre stage manager
  • Served two terms on the Board of Directors of Arts Nova Scotia as Vice-Chair of the Board, Chair of the Program Committee, and as a member of the Creative Nova Scotia Leadership Council, an advisory board to the Provincial Minister of Culture
  • Executive Director of Debut Atlantic (2013–2018)
  • Manager of the Banff International String Quartet Competition and Festival at Banff Centre

The appointment marks the second major announcement for Chamberfest this season, with Ottawa-based musician Carissa Klopoushak announced as Artistic Director this past March.

What she’s saying: “I am absolutely thrilled to join Chamberfest,” said Faraday. “I have a passion for chamber music — the visible and visceral connection between musicians resulting in an intimacy that encircles the audience. This connection is what speaks to each of us as audience, staff, donors, and volunteers. It draws us in and holds us, excites and drives us, and inspires and motivates.”

What they’re saying:

“She is well respected in Canada’s classical music community and she has the ingenuity, insight, and heart essential to succeed as Executive Director,” said Klopoushak. “I look forward to leading an organization resolutely turned toward the future together with Mhiran.”

“Mhiran is uniquely qualified and she brings a formidable breadth of knowledge, skills and experience to the role,” said Gilles LeVasseur, Ottawa Chamberfest’s Board Chair. “The Board is very excited to welcome her and we look forward to working together as part of our vibrant and resilient organization.”

Meanwhile, on stage: The Ottawa Chamber fest will take place between July 22 – August 4. The line-up includes Isabel Bayrakdarian, New Orford String Quartet, Echo Chamber Toronto, Gryphon Trio, collectif9, Arion Baroque Orchestra, soprano Jonelle Sills, Lemon Bucket Orkestra, I Musici de Montréal, pianist Stewart Goodyear, and more.
