Executive Director of Toronto Mendelssohn Choir (TMC), Cynthia Hawkins, has confirmed conductor Noel Edison has taken a personal leave of absence from his duties.

Hawkins did not say what was behind the sudden absence, nor did she know how long the leave will be.

“In the interim, we have immediately begun a search for a guest conductor to fill in for Noel in his absence,” she said.

“We have cancelled our March 6th and 7th MacMillan and Pärt concerts (the timing was just too tight on these concerts coming up in only a week). We will be working with RCM Tickets on contacting all current ticket holders.”

Hawkins confirmed they will be going ahead with the upcoming Sacred Music for a Sacred Space concert on March 28 and 30 with current rehearsals continuing under our TMC Associate conductor Jennifer Min-Young Lee.

They are actively searching for a guest conductor and will announce the replacement once the search is complete.
