For another week, Andrea Bocelli (Duets (30th Anniversary) No. 1), Jon Batiste (Beethoven Blues, No. 2), and François Dompierre (Requiem, No. 3) hunker down to maintain their hold on the top three positions in the Classical Chartz.

Close behind, however, comes Lucienne Renaudin Vary and her release Winter Gardens, making the step up to No. 4 from No. 5 last week. The French trumpet player has envisaged the album as a kind of hygge home concert — comfort food for the soul. It includes a range of material from Christmas classics to Dvorak arranged for trumpet and chamber orchestra, and performed by Vary and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, conducted by Sascha Goetzel (former music director of Canada’s National Youth Orchestra). It’s comforting music for trying times.

Brand new to the Classical Chartz this week, Andre Rieu and The Sound of Heaven make their debut at No. 9. André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra Netherlands deliver two discs (one CD and one DVD) of romantic music from Handel to Andrew Lloyd Webber. There’s a range of material from classical to pop, including musicals like The Phantom of the Opera and music from Star Wars and other blockbuster films. In short, there’s a variety that’s sure to offer something for everyone. The two-disc combination of audio and video showcases the charismatic violinist and conductor at his best.
