CLASSICAL MUSIC CHARTS TOP 10 MAY 25 2024

Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra take over the No. 1 spot, up from No. 2 last week with Love Is All Around (Live). Hauser, with Classic II, drops down to the No. 2 spot to make room. Just below, at the third spot, John Williams & Saito Kinen Orchestra continue to climb upwards with John Williams in Tokyo. They step up from No. 4. Just behind, Yundi’s Mozart: The Sonata Project, also steps up one position from No. 5 to 4.

That’s where the Chartz get interesting, with the biggest climbs in the Top Ten this week. Elim Chan & Antwerp Symphony Orchestra with All These Lighted Things leaps from 10 to No. 5. Conductor Elim Chan has worked with some of the world’s most prominent orchestras, include the Los Angeles Phil, Staatskapelle of Berlin and Dresden. This recording sees her lead her own Antwerp Symphony Orchestra in music by Prokofiev, Ravel, and Elizabeth Ogonek, an American composer. Dance is the focus, with the two classic ballet scores (Romeo and Juliet, and Daphnis et Chloe), and Ogonek’s ‘three little dances for orchestra’.

Yunchan Lim and his Chopin Études vaults into the Top Ten for the first time this week, up to No. 6 from No. 15 last week. At 18, Yunchan Lim became the youngest person ever to win the Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022, and he’s been lighting up the international concert scene ever since. Chopin Études, which includes Op.10 & Op.25, is Lim’s debut recording on the Decca label.
