Violinist and guest director Aisslinn Nosky will return to Tafelmusik to perform in the Passions Revealed program. Along with concerts in Toronto February 23 to 25, Tafelmusik and Nosky will be on tour in the United States from February 29 to March 13.

Nosky will be directing the concert as well as performing as a soloist. The US tour will take Aisslinn and Tafelmusik to Columbus, the Washington University in St Louis, the Yale School of Music, Cornell and Columbia Universities, and the University of Virginia.

“We can’t wait to welcome Aisslinn Nosky back to Toronto for Passions Revealed,” says Tafelmusik Artistic Co-Director Cristina Zacharias in a statement. “Aisslinn’s passion and energy as a performer inspired this exciting program that explores a vast range of emotion. She joins Tafelmusik’s newest violinist, Johanna Novom, in one of our favourite pieces, the Bach Double Violin concerto — sure to be a program highlight. In March, we look forward to taking Passions Revealed to audiences in the eastern U.S. for our first international tour since 2019.”

Aisslinn Nosky

Aisslinn is a specialist when it comes to early music. A native of Nanaimo, BC, Aisslinn began studying the violin at the age of three at a community music school. She went on to study at the Nanaimo Conservatory for a decade. Aisslinn made her solo debut with the CBC Vancouver Orchestra at the age of eight.

She began studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School in Toronto at 15, furthering her studies at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and the chamber music institute at the Ravinia Festival.

She was a member of the Metro String Quartet from 1993 to 1999. Aisslinn then went on to co-found the I FURIOSI Baroque Ensemble with soprano Gabrielle McLaughlin, violinist Julia Wedman and cellist/gambist Felix Deak, an ensemble that became known for innovative programming.

Aisslinn joined Tafelmusik in 2005 and performed with the ensemble as a member until 2016. In 2011, she became concertmaster of the Handel and Haydn Society. With them, she’s recorded the complete Haydn and Mozart violin concertos. She served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Niagara Symphony from 2016 to 2019, and was Guest Artist-in-Residence of the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.

Aisslinn is a founding member of the Eybler Quartet, who perform and record early string quartets on period instruments.

Passions Revealed

The program explores the emotional landscape of baroque music, from the delightful sweetness of Locatelli’s Concerto grosso in C Minor to the courtly romanticism of Telemann’s Orchestral Suite in B-flat Major.

Vivaldi’s Concerto for bassoon “La Notte” (The Night) will spotlight the talents of Tafelmusik’s own Dominic Teresi. Fasch’s bold Overture and the Chaconne from Marais’ Alcyone add to the musical and emotional journey.

The finale of Passions Revealed is Bach’s Concerto for 2 violins in D Minor, featuring Aisslinn Nosky and Tafelmusik’s Johanna Novom.
