The number 1 and 2 spots are locked down for a second week, occupied by Anne-Sophie Mutter’s Virtuosi (1) and Angèle Dubeau and La Pieta with Philip Glass: Portrait at second.
There are also two releases that are new to the Top Ten this week. At number 7, up from 15 last week, Canadian violin virtuoso James Ehnes & the BBC Philharmonic with conductor Sir Andrew Davis offer Stravinsky: Violin Concerto, Orchestral Works. James Ehnes is widely acknowledged as one of the premiere musicians of his generation, and this all-Stravinsky recording is his third on the Chandros label. Along with the Violin Concerto, the album includes orchestral suites, the Scherzo à la russe, and Apollon Musagète.
New to the charts and roaring in at number 9 is the Vienna Philharmonic with Christian Thielemann and their New Year’s Concert 2024. There is a traveling version of the show; this is the January 1, 2024 concert recorded in the Golden Hall of the storied Musikverein in Vienna. The Vienna Phil and Maestro Christian Thielemann offer a Strauss-heavy program with a pinch of Bruckner, Lumbye, Komzák, and Ziehrer that was performed in front of an audience and broadcast live to more than 90 countries across the globe.
