Soundstreams has announced the appointment of Beth Brown to the role of Executive Director, starting November 1, 2021.

Brown joins Soundstreams amid a period of renewal in the organization. Not only is it Soundstreams’ 40th anniversary, but they are reopening after 20 long months of uncertainty amid ever-changing government regulating where and when they can and can’t operate.

Background

  • Graduate of Queen’s University (Bachelor of Music) and the National Theatre School of Canada (Technical Theatre Production)
  • Stage Manager and Production Manager, both in Toronto and abroad
  • Former General Manager of Theatre Direct Canada
  • Managing Director of Nightwood Theatre
  • Board Member for the Toronto Alliance of Performing Arts (TAPA)
  • Chair of the Dora jury nomination committee

“I am thrilled to be joining the incredibly talented and dedicated team at Soundstreams!” said Brown in a statement. “…I look forward to continuing the work of my predecessors, ensuring that flexible, adaptable and innovative systems are in place which will best support the vital work of this organization and the dissemination of that work not only to our local communities, but nationally and abroad.”

Musical Chairs

  • Brown will replace Emma Fowler, who had stepped in as Interim Executive Director, to replace Menon Dwarka, who unexpectedly stepped down in April 2020.
  • Dwarka served in the role since January 2020, following the departure of Ben Dietschi in 2019.
  • Fowler will remain at Soundstreams to contribute as Director of Artistic Planning and Outreach.
  • Coco Chen and Rebecca Cuddy appointed to Soundtreams’ Board.
