The Azrieli Foundation has announced the launch of the 2022 AMP Music Prize (AMP) and is inviting Canadian and international composers to apply now.

Established in 2014 by the Azrieli Foundation, AMP offers the largest music composition prize in Canada. What makes the prize so special is that it recognizes talent in composition that might otherwise go unrecognized.

Two of the prizes focus on new Jewish music, with a third a commission from a Canadian composer. The three prizes are awarded biannually and rotate between oratorio, orchestral, choral, and chamber music. The 2022 edition will focus on orchestral music.

The winners will each receive a $50,000 cash prize, as well as have their works performed at Gala concert in October 2022 by Montréal’s L’Orchestre Métropolitain with renowned Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The winning compositions will also receive two international premieres and be featured on a recording from the Analekta label.

Altogether, the total prize package for each Azrieli Music Prize is valued at over $200,000.

Submission Deadlines:

  • The Azrieli Commission for Canadian Music – Sunday, May 2, 2021
  • The Azrieli Commission for Jewish Music – Sunday, May 2, 2021
  • The Azrieli Prize for Jewish Music – Sunday, August 1, 2021

The Jewish Music Prize jury includes Boris Brott, Brian Current, Neil W. Levin, Steven Mercurio, Betty Olivero. The Canadian prize jury is Barbara Croall, Mary Ingraham, David Pay, Ana Sokolović, and Andrew Staniland.
