THE SCOOP | Toronto Summer Music Reimagines 2020 Summer Festival Online

By Michael Vincent on July 9, 2020

The Toronto Summer Music (TSM) has announced they will be taking the festival entirely online this summer between July 16 and August 1 with 18 free events.

The popular summer festival cancelled all in-person events on April 9 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but after some quick planning, was able to find a way to take the season online with daily performances, masterclasses, kids programming and showcases from TSM Academy Fellows.

“During times of crisis music continues to bring humanity together. It was essential for TSM to find a way to produce a festival despite the challenges we are all facing from the pandemic. We are grateful that our community of artists and presenting venues, donors, funders and sponsors rallied together to make this online festival possible,” wrote Jonathan Crow, TSM Artistic Director in a press release statement.

All events will be pre-recoded from venues across the US and Canada and broadcast in high quality video and audio via the Vimeo platform.

Select online events include:

• James Ehnes and pianist Andrew Armstrong (July 16)
• Rémi Pelletier and Philip Chiu (July 18)
• Mark Fewer with Nathan Hiltz and Joseph Phillips (July 20)
• The Missing Pages, a play written by and starring Tom Allen (July 21)
• Andrew Wan with Brian Manker and Philip Chiu (July 23)
• Dover Quartet (July 25)
• Ladom Ensemble (July 28)
• VC2 Cello Duo (July 30)
• Ema Nikolovska (July 31)
• Cameron Crozman, Philip Chiu, Eric Abramovitz, Neil Deland, Darren Hicks, Jonathan Crow, Barry Shiffman, Brian Manker, and Jeffrey Beecher (August 1)

Links for each concert will be posted by 10:00am on the TSM website the day of the performance.

TSM will be running a matching donation campaign throughout the festival starting today.
