Following the departure of former Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) executive director, Diana Weir in January 2020, Kim Varian has been appointed as the orchestra’s new executive director.
Varian had been serving as Interim Executive Director of the orchestra since Weir left to join the Toronto Symphony. With over 20 years of experience in development, marketing and operations, Varian is recognized for strategic management, community partnership building and revenue-generating initiatives.
Before becoming Interim Executive Director, Varian served as Director of Development and Communications for the HPO.
“We are delighted to see Kim step into this role,” said HPO chair Anne Tennier. “She brings years of strategic management and development experience, and as interim ED, we have been particularly impressed with how she has led the organization through this turbulent time. Her experience and thoughtful leadership has been a tremendous asset that will guide us in the future.”
“Kim is passionate about the HPO and the arts in our community, and she brings a wealth of experience to our orchestra,” said HPO Music Director Gemma New. “On a personal note, I am immensely looking forward to working closely with her in building a thriving future for the HPO.”
Varian officially starts her new role on June 1, 2020.
