Announced this week, the Second edition of the Mécénat Musica Prix 3 Femmes has named the winners of the $50,000 prize to seed-fund the creation of three new operas by Canadian composers.

The prize is awarded to female-identifying Canadian composers and librettists excelling in opera.

The 2020-21 winners are:

Sonia Paço-Rocchia, composer (Laurentides QC) and Marie-Ève Bouchard, librettist (Saint-Jérôme QC)

Anna Pidgorna, composer (New Westminster BC) and Maria Reva, librettist (New Westminster BC)

Parisa Sabet, composer (Toronto) and Nika Khanjani, librettist (Montreal)

Each will create a new opera to premiere in 2021 and receive mentorship and workshops opportunities.

The operas will be staged as a co-production with Toronto’s Opera 5, Montreal’s Opera McGill, Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ), and Kingston’s Queen’s University Dan School of Music.

The prizes will be presented at the Mécénat Musica Gala, Chapelle historique du Bon Pasteur in Montréal on Sept. 16, 2020.

Bravissimi to the winners. We can’t wait to hear what they come up with.
