THE SCOOP | Andrea Bocelli To Stream Free Easter Concert From An Empty Duomo Cathedral

Italy’s Duomo Cathedral would usually full of parishioners for Easter weekend, but due to the coronavirus crisis, its pews will be empty.

In a concert billed as “Music for Hope”, renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli will sing from the historic cathedral for a free Easter concert broadcast to an online-only audience.

The concert will stream live on YouTube starting at 1 p.m. ET (7 p.m. in Milan, Italy) on Easter Sunday, April 12.

‘Sì’ to the Duomo of Milan

“The joyous serenity that usually comes with this day, has been greatly troubled by the pandemic we are experiencing, said Milan’s mayor Giuseppe Sala. “…the extraordinary voice of Bocelli will be the embrace we are missing these days, a strong, special hug, capable of warming the heart of Milan, Italy and the world.”

Cathedral organist Emanuele Vianelli will accompany Bocelli in a program of works that include “Ave Maria” and “Sancta Maria.”

For those able to help, The Andrea Bocelli Foundation is asking for donations to help hospitals purchase equipment to protect medical staff from the virus.
