In the wake of the COVID-19 virus pandemic, the Victoria Symphony (VS) has announced they will be cancelling the remainder of the 2019/20 concert season.

The VS joins to the list of orchestras in Canada who have shuttered their seasons, resulting in mass layoffs of staff and musicians. (Calgary Philharmonic; Winnipeg Symphony)

“We are in extraordinary times as the world grapples with the effects of the COVID-19 virus. Our highest priority is the health and welfare of our patrons, musicians, conductors, artists, staff and volunteers. And so, it is with regret that we announce that the Victoria Symphony will be cancelling the remainder of the 2019/20 season.”

The orchestra is offering full refunds but is asking ticket holders to consider donating their tickets.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by the current pandemic. Please be assured that as soon as conditions return to normal, the Victoria Symphony is eager to reassume its role as a contributor to the cultural life here on Vancouver Island.”
