Following the success of last year’s New Wave Reprise event, Esprit orchestra has announced an expanded New Wave Festival highlighting some of Canada’s freshest musical voices.

The line-up is heavy with Canadian composers, including Nicole Lizée, Stephanie Orlando, Chris Paul Harman, Julia Mermelstein, Quinn Jacobs, Keiko Devaux, James O’Callaghan, Alison Yun-Fei Jiang, Christina Volpini, Eugene Astapov, and Jamie Li.

“More waves of young composers are turning up in Canada every year,” says Esprit Music Director & Conductor, Alex Pauk. “They are well-trained, passionate, and have lots of exciting ideas for grabbing your attention. Esprit’s New Wave Festival aims to initiate and sustain relationships with these firebrands, as well as superb young performers, and provide a career-launching showcase for their creations. Our New Wave rendezvous also enables audiences to get to know these artists and their work in a deep, meaningful way.”

The three-day festival will kick-off April 16, and will feature four concerts, an artist’s panel, and a finale reception with keynote speaker composer John Rea.

Performers include VC2, (cello duo Amahl Arulanandam & Bryan Holt), Michael Bridge (accordion), Cameron Crozman, (cello), Shannon Mercer (soprano), and Jennifer Nichols (choreographer/dancer).
