The principal casting for Etudes by Danish choreographer Harald Lander, Alexei Ratmansky’s Piano Concerto #1 and the company premiere of Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort has been announced.
Alexei Ratmansky’s Piano Concerto #1 will feature Principal Dancers Heather Ogden, Harrison James and Naoya Ebe. The ballet pays tribute to Dmitri Shostakovich as the final instalment of his Trilogy.
Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort will feature Svetlana Lunkina, Harrison James, Naoya Ebe and First Soloist Jenna Savella in principal roles. Reprised from the 1991 Salzburg Festival to mark the second centenary of the death of Mozart, Petite Mort includes music from two of Mozart’s most famous piano concertos. Translating as “little death”, the ballet explores the sexual innuendo in the phrase through a cast of dancers who move and spar with one another.
Heather Ogden, Harrison James and Naoya Ebe will lead Harald Lander’s Etudes. The work was originally commissioned by The Royal Danish Ballet in 1948, and is set to piano exercises by composer Carl Czerny.
Stay tuned for our review of the mixed program on November 28.
The National Ballet’s Etudes, Piano Concerto #1 and Petite Mort run November 27 – December 1, 2019, at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. Details
