Toronto Summer Music runs now through August 3 — enter now for a chance to see two free concerts at Koerner Hall.

From July 11 to August 3, 2019, Toronto Summer Music (TSM) invites audiences to experience classical music through a global lens.

Courtesy of TSM, one lucky winner will receive 2 VIP tickets to the following events at Koerner Hall:

From Franz Schubert to Freddie Mercury

Art of Time Ensemble with singer-songwriters Sarah Slean and John Southworth — July 25, 2019, 7:30 pm at Koerner Hall.

To mark its twentieth season, Art of Time Ensemble revive one of its favourite and most highly-praised programs featuring tributes to Glenn Gould and Lou Reed. Singer-songwriter Sarah Slean joins them for this cross-genre TSM Festival event.

Full concert details found here.

Song of the Earth

Gemma New, conductor, Rihab Chaieb, mezzo-soprano, Mario Bahg, tenor, Jonathan Crow, violin — August 1, 2019, 7:30 pm at Koerner Hall.

Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major, K. 219 “Turkish”
Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde (arr. Schoenberg/Riehn)

Mozart adopted the quasi-Middle Eastern or “Turkish” style that was popular in his day. In Das Lied von der Erde, Mahler’s symphony for voices and instruments, he set German translations of wise, insightful Chinese poems that date back to the eighth century. Together, the words and music address, in soul-stirring fashion, some of the most poignant of all philosophical ideas. Among them are the meanings of life, love, and death, the searing reality of loneliness, and the eternal mystery of reality versus illusion.
