Q&A | 10 Questions For Composer Quinn Jacobs (video edition)

By Ludwig Van on March 7, 2019

Here’s us throwing some probing questions at Toronto composer Quinn Jacobs.

Quinn Jacobs, composer

Quinn Jacobs is a locally grown composer, performer, arts administrator, and educator, who has been making a name for himself writing music for the NOW Ensemble, Esprit Orchestra, Angela Blumberg Dance Productions, and 90th Parallel Productions, to name a few.

In this first video edition of our Q&A series, we cornered Quinn behind a grand piano at Trinity St. Paul’s to ask him all of life’s most important questions, such as: the most difficult instrument to write for, the one sentence that describes his work, and the most important of all, his signature meal to cook at home.

Quinn looks forward to the sounds that have yet to be made, and the stories that have yet to be told!

You can hear his latest work, “Music About Music,” performed by the Esprit Orchestra at New Wave Reprise at Trinity St. Paul’s Centre on Friday, April 5, 2019, at 7 pm.

By Norman Lebrecht on September 20, 2019

Gugnin, a young Russian who won a piano competition in Sydney, Australia, plays at times maddeningly fast, just to show he can. But amid the helter-skelter there are moments of tender and profound contemplation that I need to hear again and again.
