The Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s Adrian Fung has formally resigned his role as Vice-President, Innovation, effective July 14, 2017.

After nearly two years with the TSO, Fung will be leaving to take on the role of Associate Dean and Associate Professor of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma.

“I will be taking on both the Executive Artistic Director at Vancouver’s Music in the Morning, as well as Associate Dean and Associate Professor of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma,” Fung said in a statement to Musical Toronto.

Along with his work leading the five schools under the College, Fung will be working closely with the College of Business on an arts-business program as well as an arts seed-funding incubator. He plans to move to Oklahoma with his family this summer.

“I will be transitioning my projects and files (the most pertinent being Canada Mosaic and the e-learning platform) to the team here. The heavy-lifting of strategy, planning, and negotiations are finished now, so visibility and audience engagement falls on the very capable shoulders of my colleague David Postill, VP Marketing. Michael Morreale will be leading the e-learning and digital aspects of the project.”

Fung’s unique VP role at the TSO was first initiated by former Toronto Symphony Orchestra CEO Jeff Melanson on October 13, 2015. It was designed to foster innovation in artistic, social, and revenue, as well as education and outreach programs.

The TSO will be retiring the role after Fung’s departure on July 14, 2017.
