Orchestra Toronto has named singer and former Marketing & Development Coordinator with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Jennie Worden, as Executive Director beginning at the end of the 2016–17 season.

“I am over the moon to be joining the organization,” Worden said. “Community classical music is a passion of mine and Orchestra Toronto is a great organization, and I’m really excited to be joining them.”

Worden will be taking over from Samantha Little, who announced in late January 2017 that she would be stepping down. “My plans for the future are to make a full-time return to the film industry, Little said in a statement. That return was to join the much anticipated high-profile CBC/Netflix series based on Anne of Green Gables titled Anne the Series, which premieres on March 19 at 8 p.m. on CBC.

Since leaving the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir last year, Worden was encouraged to apply for the newly opened position as a means to utilize her skills as a community builder, marketer, and communications leader.

As a singer and flautist, Worden emphasized her musical background for giving her a strong appreciation for where the musicians in the organization are coming from. “It has really instilled in me a love of community classical music and high-level performance,” she said.

Worden will be working closely with Little over the summer to ensure a smooth transition towards the orchestra’s 63rd season in 2017–18, which has yet to be announced.

Orchestra Toronto, founded in 1954, is the Orchestra in Residence at the beautifully appointed, state of the art George Weston Recital Hall in the Toronto Centre for the Arts.
