Canada’s flagship Honens Piano Competition have now opened the application process for another highly anticipated 2018 competition.

The Competition’s Quarterfinals take place in Berlin and New York in March 2018. Semifinals and Finals take place in Calgary from August 30 to September 8, 2018.

Only international emerging status pianists aged 20 to 30 without professional representation are eligible.

See here for the details:

For the last 25 years, Honens has discovered the world’s most promising pianists and helped nurture their careers. The Honens Prize Laureate is awarded $100,000 CAN and a three-year comprehensive artist development program valued at a half million dollars—the largest prize of its kind.

Eligible pianists may submit applications at honens.com/apply.

The 2018 Honens Piano Competition is presented by TD Bank Group, with support from Nexen Energy, a CNOOC Limited company; TransAlta Corporation; RBC Foundation, Sir Jack Lyons Charitable Trust, WAX Partnership Inc., Calgary Arts Development Authority / City of Calgary, Calgary Foundation, Alberta Foundation for the Arts / Government of Alberta, Alberta Lottery Fund, Department of Canadian Heritage and Rozsa Foundation.

In November 2016, Honens announced the 2018 Competition juries, collaborating artists and mentor.
juries
The Honens juries include concert pianists and other individuals from the music world who play a meaningful role in a concert artist’s career. These include artist managers, collaborative musicians, conductors and concert and festival presenters. All jurors have extensive knowledge of the piano literature and represent and/or are aware of the qualities an artist must possess in order to build and sustain a career today.
Applicant Screening Jury
The Applicant Screening Jury, made up of four members including a representative from Honens, evaluates candidate applications based on proposed Competition programming, experience relative to age, and reference letters. The jury selects 50 pianists to advance to the Quarterfinals: International Audition Round.
