It’s hard to imagine the Toronto Summer Music Festival without longtime Director Douglas McNabney, but somehow we will have to learn to. The TSM Festival has announced today that this summer will be McNabney’s last year as head of the Festival.
Under McNabney’s leadership, he brought a wide range of international artists to Toronto every summer. He helped grow the Festival and Academy programs, and provided the city with some of the best classical music festival programming anywhere.
“I am very proud of what the board, staff and I have accomplished together over the past six years: Toronto Summer Music has become a fixture in the Toronto cultural scene – a well-known, well-respected partner to many of the most important cultural organizations in the city,” said McNabney. “We continue to grow, each year adding new elements that reinforce our reputation as a dedicated and creative contributor to Toronto’s thriving musical community. I feel that the timing could not be better to hand over the responsibilities to a new Artistic Director.”
TSM Board Chair Lawrence Herman stated, “His creative, collaborative, and supportive leadership will be greatly missed by all of us at TSM – audiences, artists, board, staff, and volunteers.”
The TSM wait to start its search for a new Director beginning the end of August. The 2016 TSM Festival runs from July 14 to August 7, and Festival line-up details will be released on April 12.
