The Toronto Symphony Orchestra has announced Toronto-based composer Jordan Pal as the next RBC Affiliate Composer.

Jordan Pal succeeds composer Kevin Lau, who competed his tenure as RBC Affiliate Composer between September 2012 to August 2015. Pals duties will include working with TSO Music Director Peter Oundjian, as well as Composer Advisor Gary Kulesha towards composing a minimum of two works for orchestra. He will also participate in various education initiatives with TSO community-outreach programs.

“Jordan is an extremely gifted composer with a tremendous sense of drama and intensity,” says Peter Oundjian. “He is also a great communicator, and a talented and entertaining public speaker. I am thrilled to have Jordan as a part of the TSO’s artistic team.”

Pal holds a Doctorate in Music Composition from the University of Toronto, and has worked with an impressive list of groups including the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Gryphon Trio, St. Lawrence String Quartet.

“Congratulations to Jordan Pal for achieving this honour at this early stage in his promising career,” said George Lewis, Group Head, RBC Wealth Management & RBC Insurance. “RBC is committed to supporting emerging talent in Canada and this program provides the opportunity for emerging composers to work with some of the best in the Canadian orchestral world.”

We look forward to following Pal’s two-year affiliation as RBC Affiliate Composer with the TSO and hearing his first work with the TSO in June 2016.

To give a taste of Jordan Pal’s compositional voice here is a lovely piece for Classical Guitar titled “Enigmas.” (2013). Rob MacDonald (Guitar).
