For a fearless 8-year old in Minneapolis, Minnesota, putting on a free recital of pieces from his elementary school piano book was the next best thing to selling lemonade. That is, until over 400 people showed up to Dylan Spoering’s front yard to watch him perform.
It all started when a local musician named Thomas Rehbein was cycling home and saw a poster Dylan made for his world debut performance from the front porch of his family home. Rehbein took a photo of the poster and went home and created a Facebook event page for the concert and encouraged everyone to come support the young piano upstart.
“I have no idea who Dylan Spoering is, but he made this sign and put it out in his front yard, which I saw while biking home,” Rehbein wrote on his Facebook page. “Wouldn’t it be cool if a bunch of people showed up for his free concert?”
Despite an early summer drizzle, KARE 11 News reported around 400 enthusiastic fans showed up to brave the elements and help support the tenacious piano student.
The fans, calling themselves “Dylan Heads,” cheered him on and even made signs of their own, demanding an encore from a thoroughly thrilled Dylan.
The event was streamed live online to an audience of nearly 10,000 people, as reported by Fox 9 News.
During the intermission (with cookies) Dylan played to the crowed asking them how long they thought he had practiced for the show. “Fifteen years,” someone replied. “But I’m only eight,” he teased.
Just enough to warm everyone’s heart.
