Toronto Mendelssohn Choir | Sacred Music for a Sacred Space
April 17, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Join us in a new venue – the beautiful St. Anne’s Anglican Church – for a concert of contemplative music.
This annual TMC Good Friday concert has become a cherished moment of calm and reflection for many. Come and discover the visual and acoustic splendour of St. Anne’s — the “Group of Seven” church. Enjoy a program that brings together two rich choral traditions: the French subtlety of Messiaen, Poulenc and Martin; and the mystical traditions of Eastern Europe and Russia, with music by Kodaly, Rachmaninoff, Penderecki and Schnittke.
The program will also feature Healey Willan‘s An Apostrophe to the Heavenly Hosts, composed for the TMC in 1921.
Concert repertoire:
O sacrum convivium – Olivier Messiaen
Salve Regina – Francis Poulenc
Mass for double choir – Frank Martin
Jesus and the Traders – Zoltán Kodály
Cherubic Hymn – Sergei Rachmaninoff
Song of Cherubim – Krzysztof Penderecki
Complete this work which I began – Alfred Schnittke
An Apostrophe to the Heavenly Hosts – Healey Willan
Concert program is subject to change without notice.
