The remarkable mind of Conrad Paumann.
Some ideas are so innovative that they change the course of history. Join The Toronto Consort in welcoming internationally acclaimed scholar, lutenist, and tenor, Marc Lewon, as we celebrate the incredible contributions of 15th-century multi-disciplinary musician and composer, Conrad Paumann (c. 1410-1473). Known to history as the “Blind German”, Paumann revolutionized lute technique by developing a method of playing all voices at once: striking the strings with a plectrum. An evening of Paumann keyboard transcriptions, Strike the Lute will feature Esteban La Rotta and Marc Lewon on lutes, with a mixed accompaniment on voice, harp, flutes, and vielle.
