Toronto Consort | Navidad
December 6, 2024 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$20
The Toronto Consort cordially invites you to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Latin American culture through the lens of Christmas traditions.
Christmas holds profound significance for the Latin American community, marked by cherished moments with family and loved ones gathering around a table adorned with delicious dishes unique to this time of the year, as the joyous sounds of festive music fill the air. These gatherings, spanning approximately two weeks and known as posadas in Mexico or novenas de aguinaldos in other Latin American countries, serve as a heartfelt prelude to the grand Christmas celebration on the 24th.
We invite you to join the Consort and special guests from Peru, Bolivia, and Colombia, in this special musical celebration, a harmonious journey to prepare your heart for the Christmas season.
Our repertoire will traverse the old villancicos de Navidad (Christmas carols) originating from 15th-century Spain, extend to those composed in South America during the 16th and 17th centuries including the vibrant pieces found in the codex Martinez Companon, and explore the folkloric and traditional gems that have endured through the ages, featuring the performance of the enchanting composition Navidad Nuestra by the renowned Argentinian composer Ariel Ramirez.
