Sinfonia Toronto | Beethoven & Haydn
December 9, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$44
Sinfonia Toronto’s “BEETHOVEN & HAYDN – Multi Moods” concert will present a delightfully eclectic mix of styles.
Maestro Nurhan Arman and the orchestra will open with an full-strings version of “Papa Haydn’s” quartet subtitled “The Joke” in recognition of all the composer’s witty tactics, and then accompany Toronto soprano Lynn Isnar’s beautiful voice as she interprets three selections by Beethoven and the Romantic masters Verdi and Zemlinsky.
The second half will open with a creative riff on Tchaikovsky’s “Hymn to Saint Chrysotom” by Cree composer Andrew Balfour and then celebrate Beethoven’s next-week birthday with Maestro Arman’s orchestral arrangement of his “Serioso” quartet, a tremendous work which moves past Beethoven’s distress at Napoleon’s capture of Vienna to an optimistic, triumphant finale.
