Rhapsody in Blue is the focal point in this special gala concert of big band jazz by composers such as Oscar Peterson, Nat King Cole, Tommy Dorsey, and more.
As the first classical brass soloist to ever receive the Order of Canada, Jens Lindemann is hailed as one of the most celebrated artists in his instrument’s history and was recently named International Brass Personality of the Year by the Brass Herald. He has played both jazz and classical in every major concert venue in the world, including Koerner Hall. Critics have described Lindemann’s playing as “golden timbre and virtuosic flair” (The New York Times), the Toronto Star stated that he “performed brilliantly,” and the Los Angeles Times has called him a “world-class talent.”
Pianist Jon Kimura Parker, who has been described as “insightful, energetic” by The New York Times, performs solo in the first half of the concert, then joins the big band for the second half. “Absolutely top-notch music-making, as fine as one could ever expect to hear.” (Washington Post)
