Royal Conservatory of Music | Beethoven’s Nine: Ode to Humanity
November 19, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$40
Beethoven’s iconic last symphony will be celebrated with a screening of Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Larry Weinstein’s deeply personal Beethoven’s Nine. The film follows nine unique individuals, including Ukrainian musicians, a deaf composer, a Polish rock star, a best-selling author, a legendary cartoonist, and Weinstein himself, as they try to better understand the legacy of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, the composer’s own struggles, the inspiration music can provide, and how humanity continues to look for hope even in the darkest times.
Following the screening, the evening continues with a thrilling performance by the Rebanks Fellowship Quartet and an exclusive Q&A session with Weinstein, Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Gustavo Gimeno, and Canadian journalist and author Steve Paikin, host of TVO’s “The Agenda.”
