Ottawa Chamberfest | Pianist Sergio Emilio Parra: Liminal Mindspaces

Mexican pianist/composer Sergio Emilio Parra makes his Chamberfest debut. Based in Ottawa, Parra recently completed his MA in Music & Culture at Carleton University. His music integrates his Classical pianistic technique with his experimental compositional style, often incorporating elements of electronic music production and visuals.

Liminal Mindspaces (2023) is an electroacoustic performance that explores the liminality of post-pandemic times through electronic soundscapes, composed by Parra, which serve as an atmosphere on top of which he improvises on the piano using both traditional and extended techniques. In addition, the show includes a series of Philip Glass’s piano pieces reworked with electronics. Liminal Mindspaces is an immersive sonic experience – an attempt to explore the human psyche in uncertain times.

Admission is free but donations are welcome.
