Blessed Rest: the German Requiem of Heinrich Schütz
One of the most profound musical reflections on life and death from the time of the Thirty Years’ War, Schütz sets texts from scripture and Martin Luther to form a distinctly Protestant Requiem (Mass for the Dead) – one that almost certainly inspired Johannes Brahms’ 19th-century setting that we will present in April 2025. The Met Festival Choir is accompanied by a lavish continuo section including organ, harpsichord, regal, theorbo, and violone.
Suggested contribution $40.
