Stewart and Stravinsky
Andrei Feher, conductor
Stewart Goodyear, piano
Joan Tower: Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, No. 1
Stravinsky: Symphonies of Wind Instruments
Poulenc: Suite française
Stravinsky: Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments
The winds, brass, and percussion take centre stage in this eclectic program almost entirely without strings. Composed in the neo-classical style but with the musical colours of the 20th century, the works by Poulenc and Stravinsky are brilliant, vigorous and full of contrasting moods. Joining the orchestra for Stravinsky’s Piano Concerto is Stewart Goodyear, a KWS favourite. Inspired by Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Joan Tower’s piece uses the same instrumentation and is dedicated to women who take risks and are adventurous.
