Domoney Artist Management | Le Comte Ory
March 2, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$30DAM Concert Opera presents Rossini’s Le Comte Ory in a semi-staged version, with interactive narration by acclaimed director François Racine, who leads us into the castle. This zany tale begins with Countess Adele (sung by soprano Caitlin Wood) who is left alone in her castle while the men are away fighting. Add a mysterious hermit, a lovelorn page, a stern tutor, and soldiers disguised as nuns who break into the castle and you have a great blend of comedy and melody, with some of the most exquisite arias, duets and ensembles in the repertoire.
Featuring singers of Domoney Artists Management, the cast includes established and next generation vocal stars, well known to Toronto audiences through their performances in both classic and contemporary opera with Canadian Opera Company, Against the Grain Theatre, Opera 5, Tapestry Opera, and Voicebox: Opera in Concert.
In the title role of Comte Ory is tenor Asitha Tennekoon, mezzo-soprano Marjorie Maltais is the page Isolier, Dion Mazerolle is the Tutor, Clarence Frazer is Raimbaud, and Maria Soulis is Ragone, companion to Countess Adele.
Nicole Bellamy is music director/pianist, and François Racine has presented several operas in this interactive style. Sung in French, François will explain the key relationships and plot points – “meanwhile, in another part of the castle…”, creating a fast-paced and entertaining evening for all.”
