Prehistoric Ligeti / Classical Context
Closing its 2018 / 2019 season, Classical Context will be hosting a concert-lecture featuring the music of Ligeti written prior to his escape from the Soviet Union. Andrew James Clark will guide listeners through the staggering events of Ligeti’s early life while he and other former graduate students from the University of Toronto tackle the unique technical virtuosity of Ligeti’s music, much of which was forbidden to be performed at the time. Metamorphoses Nocturnes will be showcased by Montreal’s Quartour Despax. The night ends with the premiere of Andrew James Clark’s String Quartet No.1, celebrating his seven-year run as Artistic Director.
