Classical guitarist Marisa Sardo will be performing in Toronto on June 11 at ArrayMusic.

On her website, she says, “I create a feminine perspective in classical guitar music in order to allow other talented women in the guitar world to stand up and demonstrate their own uniquely feminine sounds to the music world.”

Her diverse programs include music from Europe, Africa, South America, and a focus on women composers.

Sardo has carved out an impressive career that includes performance and beyond.

Marisa Sardo

Marisa Sardo began playing the guitar at the age of four, and gave her first concert at age six.

She studied the guitar at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, Italy, and at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy. There, she became the youngest person that year (2018) to receive a Diploma di Merito.

She subsequently earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University, a Master of Music degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and a Performer Diploma, from New England Conservatory. Marisa received a postgraduate degree from Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussels, Belgium.

She has won multiple international competitions, including 1st prizes at the Twisted Spruce International Music Competition, the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Competition, and the New York Laureate International Music Competition.

She works with contemporary composers, and has premiered many new works, including commissions of Guitar Sonata No. 2 by Anton von Sehrwald, Consortium by Samuel Parnin, Suite Circular by Andrea Zurita, and A Blank Page with Notes by Jake Adams.

Along with her solo performances, Marisa has also performed on stage in multiple operas.

She is a dedicated educator as well as performer, and is the classical guitar and music theory instructor at Arpeggiato Music School. Marisa founded her own management company, Sardo Art Management, in 2025, and her current clients include Aurora Orsini, Texas Guitar Quartet, and Isaac Bustos, among others.

Her second album, The Reign of Her, was released in 2025, and features all women-composers.
