New Tricks is a barbershop quartet made up of four women who’ll be making their Toronto debut with an irreverent retelling of the Cinderella story. The appearance closes the 2024/25 season for North Wind Concerts on March 22.

Rindercella retells the classic Cinderella story with a sense of humour, and through four-part arrangements of songs by pop artists like Queen, Whitney Houston, Simon and Garfunkel, Cyndi Lauper, and others.

New Tricks Barbershop Quartet

The all-women quartet hails from Kitchener, and its members come from the worlds of classical, sacred, contemporary and early vocal music.

Carol Ann Treitz (soprano/’lead’)

Carol earned a degree from Wilfrid Laurier University with a degree in music performance, and embarked on a career creating and performing in cabaret-style shows and touring across Canada. She sings as a member of The Elora Festival Singers, and has a busy private teaching studio.

Susan St. John (soprano/’tenor’)

Susan has a 30 year background in barbershop ensembles, and has performed with choruses and quartets at the local, national and international level. She is also active in musical theatre, and film work. She is currently completing her Doctor of Ministry.

Kathy Hanneson (mezzo/’baritone’)

Kathy’s history with barbershop vocals dates back to not long after graduating from the University of Guelph. Since that time, she’s been active in the genre as a chorister, arranger, director and member of a number of choruses and quartets that have competed locally and internationally.

Laura Pudwell (mezzo/’bass’)

Growing up in a musical family, Laura started singing professionally while attending Trinity College at the University of Toronto. As a performer, she has specialized in Baroque and Renaissance music. She was a regular performer with the Toronto Consort, and has made multiple appearances with Opera Atelier, including performing at Versailles, and a Grammy nomination.
