A team of talented young artists will offer a program of operatic and violin favourites, sprinkled with recent neoclassical work, presented by The Alliance Française de Toronto. Pianist and composer Jonathan Kravtchenko will be jointed by soprano Antonina Laskarzhevska, baritone Bohdan Kirieiev, and violinist Daniel Temnik with pianist Mariya Orlenko.

The concert takes place on April 5 at the Spadina Theatre, designed for its acoustic properties specifically to accommodate live performances.

The Performers

Jonathan Kravtchenko is a composer and pianist who has been establishing a reputation for his original neoclassical works in the city’s indie scene. He recently composed and staged an opera with dance titled Tango for Two, a production that will be remounted in the spring.

Antonina Laskarzhevska works as a model and actress along with her engagements as a coloratura soprano. She is a frequent performer in Toronto with various choral groups, and has added her voice to classical releases as a recording artist.

Ukrainian lyric baritone Bohdan Kirieiev is a graduate of the R. Glier Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music. He has developed a repertoire and career that has taken him across Ukraine, and onto international stages. When he can, he still performs regularly in Ukraine.

Israeli-Canadian violinist Daniel Temnik has multiple award wins in his CV, including the Canadian Music Competition, Paganini International Violin Competition, Schoenfeld International Music Competition, and the Henri Marteau International Violin Competition, among others. He’s performed on some of the world’s most prominent stages, including Carnegie Hall, The Metropolitan Opera House, Koerner Hall, Teatro Carlo Felice, Wigmore Hall and the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center. He has received the Sika & Chris Dafeff Violin Bursary and the Benjamin Steinberg Music Legacy Award, among other awards.

As a recipient of The Ihnatowycz Emerging Artist Scholarship, Ukrainian-Canadian pianist Mariya Orlenko is a graduate of the Glenn Gould School of Music at the RCM. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Music in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto. Mariya is a Grand Prize winner in the Canadian Music Competition, and has also taken home top prizes from the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition and the OSM Manulife Competition.
