Alexander Brose, former Executive Director and CEO of the Tianjin Juilliard School, will take over as President & CEO of the Royal Conservatory of Music when Dr. Peter Simon retires on August 31, 2024.
“In Alexander Brose we have found a person who is uniquely qualified to build on the exceptional foundation that has been established, and to lead The Royal Conservatory into the next stage of its evolution as a global leader in music education and performance,” said Dr. Simon in a statement. “He understands the essential role that music plays in the development of young people and in fostering the human connections that are the basis of a cohesive society. The future for The Royal Conservatory is very bright.”
While the official date is in 2024, Brose’s work will begin on September 1, 2023 as President Designate. Brose and Simon will work together for a full year before Dr. Simon’s retirement date.
Alexander Brose has a decades long background in music education. He became the first executive director and CEO of The Tianjin Juilliard School — the renowned Juilliard School’s one and only branch campus — in 2017, and was responsible for establishing the new institution in China.
- Vice president for development at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado from 2012 until 2017;
- Prior to Aspen, during 11 years at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he served a variety of roles, including associate vice president for advancement;
- Fluent in Mandarin, he built relationships with the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and other institutions;
- Produced and co-curated the San Francisco-Shanghai International Chamber Music Festival for two years.
Raised in South Korea and Hong Kong, Brose is a trained vocalist who has performed across the globe.
