Toronto Symphony Orchestra/Augustin Hadelich

Saturday Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. Roy Thomson Hall (repeats Sunday Nov. 20 at 3 p.m.). $49+

The Yo-Yo Ma gala on Wednesday is sold out. Your TSO alternative on the weekend is the Italian-German-American violinist Augustin Hadelich as soloist in Sibelius’s momentous concerto for that instrument. Gustavo Gimeno leads a suite from Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier and Ravel’s equally lavish La Valse; plus Aeriality, a minimalist landscape by the Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir. Women’s Musical Club of Toronto/Quatuor Despax

Thursday Nov. 17 at 1:30 p.m. Walter Hall. $45 (students free)

Four siblings from Gatineau taught by their father play Haydn (Op. 76 No. 1), Ravel and Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (with violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt and cellist Brian Manker). Arrive by 12:15 p.m. for a preliminary talk by Robin Elliott. More information and tickets here.

Music Toronto/Lafayette Quartet

Thursday Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. Jane Mallett Theatre. $47.50+ (students $10, 18-35 pay your age)

This all-female quartet-in-residence at the University of Victoria — in the midst of its final season — performs Mozart (K. 589), Borodin (Quartet No. 2) and new piece by the Canadian Abigail Richardson Schulte. More information and tickets here.

Opera in Concert/Lucio Silla

Sunday Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m. Jane Mallett Theatre. $50/$38

Young Mozart’s opera seria gets a concert airing with tenor Owen McCausland as the Roman dictator of the title. Piano accompaniment. In Italian with English subtitles. More information and tickets here.

New Music Concerts/Standing Wave Ensemble

Sunday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. St. George by the Grange. $35 (arts workers/seniors $25; students $10)

The Vancouver collective Standing Wave visits with works by mid-career composers Bekah Simms, Mari Alice Conrad, James O’Callaghan and Gordon Fitzell. The 20th century classic is an expanded arrangement of Messiaen’s Le Merle Noire. Arrive by 7:15 for discussion and 7:45 for the warmup act: Derives I by Pierre Boulez performed by musicians from the Glenn Gould School. More information and tickets here.
