Arraymusic — one of Toronto’s premiere contemporary music ensembles — has announced they have appointed Martin Arnold as the new Artistic Director starting July 2016.
Martin Arnold is a well-known member of Toronto’s free improvisation and experimental jazz/roots/rock community and is both an established composers and performer. He currently teaches at Trent University Department of Cultural Studies and is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at York University in Toronto.
Martin will take over from current Arraymusic’s interim Artistic Director Rick Sacks, who has served since June 2010. Over the past six years, Sacks oversaw Arraymusic’s move from their previous home at the Artscape building in Liberty Village to 155 Walnut Avenue in 2012. His focus included the development of capital projects such as a new accessibility ramp and elevator, lighting, sound and video recording installations. He also helped facilitate a substantial addition to Arraymusic repertoire through commissions and new donations.
“I feel I have completed the goals I set out to accomplish and leave the position in a place where the new director can more easily accomplish his vision,” Sacks stated. “I now move into the position of Technical Director in charge of the development of the Arraymusic Digital Concert Hall.”
