
Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra has been named the 2015 recipient of the Ontario Arts Council’s Vida Peene Orchestra Award.
Named after Hamilton-based arts patron Vida Peene, the $10,000 award is given biennially in recognition of an Ontario orchestra’s artistic and organizational achievement.
“It’s an exciting recognition of the incredible artistic achievements of our musicians and, in particular, the work of our outgoing Music Director Jeanne Lamon who, together with her colleagues, has built Tafelmusik into the incredibly dynamic and exciting ensemble that it is today,” Managing Director William Norris stated in a press release.
The jury included Vice-President of Artistic Operations & Education Joanne Harada (Vancouver Symphony Orchestra), clarinetist E-Chen Hsu (Thunder Bay Symphony), and composer Erik Ross.
The award will be presented at Tafelmusik’s Baroque Masters concert on Thursday, November 5, at Jeanne Lamon Hall, Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre.
Past recipients include North Bay Symphony Orchestra (2013) Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra (2011 ) Sudbury Symphony Orchestra (2009).
