Another great classical music video -- this time Canadian -- by Cecilia String Quartet

ceciliaIn advance of next week’s release of a new album Amoroso with Analekta, the Cecilia String Quartet has released its first music video. The music is the unabashedly serious and intense third movement of Leos Janácek’s “Kreutzer Sonata” String Quartet No. 3.

John Terauds, the founder of Musical Toronto, is currently a Divinity student at University of Toronto and a church music director. He joined the Toronto Star in 1988, was the classical music critic from 2005 to 2012, and continues as a freelance critic for the paper. He is the co-author of Roy Thomson Hall: A Portrait, a book written with Toronto Star Colleague, William Littler.

Barry Shiffman, who connected me with the video, says that it was made possible by funding from the Banff International String Quartet Competition.

It’s fascinating to watch the camera work and how it is intimately allied with the music.
