Quebec star violinist Angèle Dubeau sidelined by breast cancer

By John Terauds on February 11, 2013

dubeauViolinist Angèle Dubeau’s label Analekta this afternoon released a statement that the star Quebec violinist and leader of La Pietà is cancelling all engagements until September in order to fight breast cancer.

“Today, one out of nine women is diagnosed with breast cancer. I have just learned that I am one of these women,” Dubeau wrote in a statement. “Like many of the courageous ladies before me that were hit by this disease, I too will beat it. I am lucky to have the support of my friends and family, and I can count on a fantastic medical team right here. Cancer can be cured, especially if it is diagnosed early. Mine was.

“I am sure you understand that I must now take some time and think about myself and my health, and recuperate. In the coming weeks, I will listen to a lot of music and ponder on this quote from Beethoven: ‘Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.’ ”
