CBC Music adds all-choral channel to classical digital streaming offerings

By John Terauds on January 17, 2013

Basic CMYKIf you want all choral all the time, CBC Music today added an exclusive channel to its 10 other classical digital streams.

As is the case with the other streaming channels, there is no commentary; just music.

At least the public broadcaster has made an effort to improve the track information that displays with each piece of music. Now it’s possible to know who is performing, what the name of the work is, and which movement is in progress.

In the space of a few minutes, I’ve heard traditional spirituals sung by the Elmer Iseler Singers, something by contemporary English composer Karl Jenkins and Begrabnisgesang, an obscure and gorgeous Brahms piece recorded by Collegium Vocale Gent.

That was followed by some Hildegaard of Bingen chant and the opening of Vivaldi’s Gloria from the King’s College Choir, Cambridge.

I guess you have to have eclectic tastes and a short musical attention span on this channel. You can check it out here.
