By John Terauds on November 16, 2012

The Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal has concluded its annual tour of works by emerging Canadian composers by announcing Riho Maimets’s composition as the winner of this year’s audience prize.

A total of 720 audience members from concerts in eight cities voted 79 per cent for Maimets’ Béatitude, earning him the “Prix du public Génération 2012,” which includes a $1,500 cheque as well as a commission of a new chamber work that will be premiered by the Ensemble next season.

Torontonian Maimets is currently studying at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.
