Annex Quartet reaches Kickstarter fundraising goal for new album

Toronto’s Annex Quartet squeaked past its $8,000 fundraising goal on Kickstarter last night, making it possible for them to go ahead with their next album.

Thanks to a last-minute push, the Annex Quartet was able to raise $8,077 from 69 pledges, which ranged from “$1 or more” to “$500 or more.” The final $2,000 worth of pledges came in during the last 11 hours.

45 of the 69 backers pledged between $10 and $50, so this was a beautiful example of successful grassroots fundraising for the “Roaring Twenties” album project.

Yesterday morning, at which point they were still $4,500 short of their goal, the Quartet posted:

Reaching the 24 hour mark has allowed us to realize how only a miracle could have this project reach its goal on Kickstarter. Who knows…maybe someone will come by and decide they have nothing better to do with $4,500 and will give it to us!! Regardless of the outcome, we do want to emphasize that we will do what ever it takes to have the project go through with or without Kickstarter and want everyone who supported us here to receive a copy of the finished project for being such great friends and supporters.

I happily apologise for having given anyone the impression that I was belittling the musicians or their project when I posted about it last week. I was merely trying to point out that these things aren’t easy — and it helps to have a strong plan of attack.

It’s easy for me to sit in the background and comment; it’s hard to actually make things happen.

I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing the results.
