Cuban-born classical pianist Beatriz Boizán, one of the many talented-yet-unsung professional piano players living in our midst, gives a free recital at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Markham at 7:30 p.m. today.

Boizán left Cuba for Vancouver after graduating from the conservatory in Havana. Among several notable teachers she has had since then was the late queen of Iberian pianism, Alicia de Larrocha, with whom Boizán spent three years.
Tonight’s concert promises to have much of de Larrocha’s influence. The largely Spanish programme is capped by Vladimir Horowitz’s arrangement of Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.
