Cuban-born classical pianist Beatriz Boizán, one of the many talented-yet-unsung professional piano players living in our midst, gives a free recital at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Markham at 7:30 p.m. today.
- Classical Music 101: What Does A Conductor Do? - June 17, 2019
- Classical Music 101 | What Does Period Instrument Mean? - May 6, 2019
- CLASSICAL MUSIC 101 | What Does It Mean To Be In Tune? - April 23, 2019
Boizán left Cuba for Vancouver after graduating from the conservatory in Havana. Among several notable teachers she has had since then was the late queen of Iberian pianism, Alicia de Larrocha, with whom Boizán spent three years.
Tonight’s concert promises to have much of de Larrocha’s influence. The largely Spanish programme is capped by Vladimir Horowitz’s arrangement of Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.
The Steinway Gallery is asking anyone interested in attending to call 905-940-5397 or email info@steinwaypianogallery.ca to reserve a seat.
Here is Boizán playing a piece by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona (1895-1963):
