Toronto Symphony Orchestra | Pines of Rome
May 24, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Respighi’s spectacular tone poem Pines of Rome takes the listener on a tour of the “eternal” city’s sights and milestones: children play merrily in a park, a chant-like elegy rises from an ancient tomb, a nightingale sings sweetly by moonlight, and the tread of an imperial army rises to a glorious climax. Louis Lortie meets the abundant challenges of Saint-Saëns’s most virtuosic piano concerto, and Sir Andrew Davis and the Orchestra launch a new work by Canadian composer Jordan Pal.
Concert running time is approximately two hours including a 20-minute intermission.
